#OCSMS: A Resounding Success!

If you are a regular reader or subscriber, you know about my trip to California for the Orange County Social Media Summit – OCSMS. The event was amazing; a combination of learning, teaching and networking. Is it just a coincidence that Facebook scheduled their IPO for the same day?  I don’t think so; I believe they were trying to draw attention away from the OCSMS!  :)

700 people registered for the summit, another 750 + watched via a streaming service, and Pastor Rick Warren watched via his iPhone while getting his teeth cleaned! I would call that a major success for a first year effort.  A special thank you volunteer organizers Rochelle Veturis Coles, Haley Veturis, Chelsey Veturis and to Saddleback Church; plus a very special thank you to Pastor Warren for stopping by and speaking to the audience for a few moments.

OCSMS was a success due to the incredible network that the organizers, keynote speaker and panelists possess.  This event was conceived and designed by people in social media for people that want to learn more about social media. I believe that is why it was so well attended; a thirst for knowledge. I was honored to have honorary Orange County status bestowed upon me and to learn from some true thought leaders in social business! Not people that call themselves experts, but individuals that work in this medium every day. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google +, Instagram; these are tools we all use. The OCSMS helped thousands to learn more about how to proper use these tools for their businesses, non-profits and individual lives.

Final statistics thanks to Rochelle Veturis Coles:

From Friday, May 18th alone, there were 4,625 #OCSMS tweets, created by 615 Twitter users, which reached more than 1,433,956 people – creating more than 11.4 million impressions.

We trended No. 1 on Twitter (in the Southern California area), and had more than 750 people join us, from all across the globe, via the livestream.

Memorial Day – Thank You

This Memorial Day, just like every Memorial Day since I can remember, I plan to spend some time being thankful.  Thankful for those that have served and sacrificed so much. Thankful for the families, wifes, husbands and children left behind after a soldier made the ultimate sacrifice. Thinking about the parents that opened the door to find a Military Officer and Chaplain standing on the doorstep, and knowing what that meant without a word being spoken.

Thankful for my dad, George W. Lusher, who served in the Army and Army reserve. Thankful for my Uncle Sam (real name) who served in the Marines. Thankful for the multitude of friends, relatives and complete strangers that faced death, gave their life and sacriiced their past so that I could have a future.

I have posted some Memorial Day photos from various sources on Pinterest:  Thank You To Those That Serve & Sacrifice.

I encourage us all to be thankful today, but do what you want to do. They fought and sacrificed for our freedom so that we can spend this day and ever day doing just that; what we want.

Thank you, God Bless America.

California in Photos

While I am in California for the Orange County Social Media Summit, I plan to take and publish tons of photos. We are a visual society :)

You can keep up and check out my photos here, on my Facebook profile as well as with my Instagram account. Enjoy seeing California through my eyes!

Everyone knows that I’m an Apple fan and geek; so it shouldn’t surprise you that I was excited to have my phone select the Cupertino, CA time zone upon my arrival :))

Landing at the Orange County/Santa Ana John Wayne Airport (SNA) was great! Very cool statue and plaque of the Duke.

First palm tree sighting outside of the airport and the hillside behind my hotel.

More photos to come….enjoy!

My California Adventure

This will be a busy and fun week for me as I travel to California for the #OCSMS.  Honestly, I can’t wait!  Taking part in the Summit, learning from peers and meeting friends face-to-face for the first time is going to be a great experience!  This type of an event, combined with meeting these friends is what fuels me; I love meeting and networking with people that share similar passions that I do.

I finally have the opportunity to meet @RochelleVeturis, @HaleyVeturis and @ChelseyVeturis in person, along with several other Twitter and Facebook friends!  Saying I am excited is a huge understatement!

Over the next week, I plan to publish posts about my trip and this experience, along with an ongoing video series about my California adventure.  I hope you will join me and enjoy the #OCSMS as much a I will! We can all learn from the best in the social media and marketing industry!
