Facebook announced exciting changes during their live video conference today. Do you believe these are improvements?Announced today:
- Video Calling with Skype
- New Chat Design, complete with Buddy Lists
- Group Chatting
The partnership with Skype was something necessary and a natural next step for the two companies. It solidifies Skype’s place in the social environment and it helps Facebook to continue to grow in the wake of Google + 1.Do you see these changes as improvements? For businesses that use Facebook to connect and stay in communication with their client and potential clients; this is HUGE! Imagine interfacing with fans and clients directly off of your Facebook Business Page! Holding a Group Chat Session with employees in other locations! It’s all about being connected, being responsive and humanizing business. How will these compete with Google + 1 ? Too soon to tell; and in reality, it is two different situations; but it does raise the bar for both Facebook and Skype in our social environment.
Although I like that Facebook is on board with video calling with Skype, I haven’t used it yet. I’ve only used Skype separate from Facebook. ??I’m not that crazy about the design, but I think they are ??moving in the right direction with the buddy list. ??That’s something I was looking for a while back when I was writing a "how-to" post. ??I’m glad they added that. As far as group chatting is concerned – I haven’t used that feature yet so I can’t say whether I like it or not. ????That being said… I DID try the Google+ Hangout. ?? The settings aren’t in intuitive locations, and the people on the other end said I sounded "metallic". ??I haven’t tried the chat feature on Google+ yet but looking forward to that.??Both Facebook & Google+ have room for improvement.
Great points and time will tell on the competition. I can tell you that Video calling using Skype does have some issues. The video is not always two way. Problems or not it still is a step in the right direction !

I like new things. I am not liking the ads on the side bars. Did they mention that?
I like the new changes with the video collaboration with Skype, but like you I do not like the ads. However, their explanation is that by selling advertisements like that, they keep Facebook free for users. But no mention of that on during the event.
