Making Connections

I was fortunate to be a sponsor and speaker at rebarcamp

Lynchburg this past week. Thank you to Nannette Saunders (@brokersaunders) and others for putting on a phenomenal event that attracted real estate professionals and other from around the country.A special thank you as well to Kathleen Herron (@sarasotadream) and her husband Nick; good people and real estate professionals that get it. Its about making connections and learning from others, no matter what their profession is or how it directly or indirectly relates to your profession.  They flew from Florida to Virginia because they understand the power of making connections.Never been to a rebarcamp or think you would not fit in? What exactly is a rebarcamp? From rebarcamp.com

RE Bar Camp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees.

Events such as a rebarcamp or even a Tweetup/Meetup is not about your profession, it is about making connections.  What types of connections did I make at rebarcamp Lynchburg?

  • Jeremy Hart (@NRVLiving) a local real estate consultant and found of RecyleNRV.com
  • Mike Mueller (@MikeMueller) Social Media and Technology Consultant
  • THE Sarah Stelmok (@SarahStelmok) a Realtor that makes Twitter connections in a unique way

Those are just a few of the connections that I made during and after the event.  Remember, its about making conections, whether you attend a Chamber of Commerce Event, a Meetup/Tweetup or standing in line at the grocery store.  Start a conversation and make a connection. What types of connections do you try to make each day?

JohnThank you for your support. You did a great job in adding value to the event. I have heard nothing but good things about you. All I hear is John this, & John that… Okay, okay already! No, seriously I am so glad you could be a part of this and I hope we are able to work together on other events like this.

John,I have to wholeheartedly agree. I just attended my 3rd REBarcamp in Bellevue, WA (a few weeks after helping organize the one in Seattle) and I have to say it’s definitely about the connections.Connect, share, learn, pass it on, etc. I really have learned a lot over the past couple of years and it’s helped me understand more about social media marketing, so much so, that I returned to my love of event and media marketing to start my own firm. But it’s people like you, like <a href="http://twitter.com/BrokerSaunders&quot; rel="nofollow">Nanette Saunders</a> and others you’ve mentioned, that really "get it!"It’s an exciting time to be a part of the new media marketing movement and also an exciting time to see how it’s being used in the Real Estate industry.I make anywhere from 5-10 new connections daily, but the most important thing I think I do (and thank you to those who taught me this) is that I CONTINUE to connect with some of those same people.Even if I can’t say anything to them daily, just periodically "checking" in works too.John, I was hoping to connect with you via video Skype or similar, just to "pick your brain" and get an insight to a social media pro and what he does out east. :-)Find me on Twitter at <a href="http://twitter.com/edbisquera&quot; rel="nofollow">@edbisquera</a>So glad to have found your blog. Have a great weekend out East! :-)Best wishes,Ed Bisquera(360) 597-8283 cell
