You're Gonna Screw Up!

While we strive to do our best in life, relationships, work, and everything else; I am convinced that if we learned and accepted at an early age that we will screw up, we would be much happier. Now, none of us expect to be perfect of course, but we all have problems with making mistakes.

For example:

* We will completely ruin a good relationship or friendship.

*We will disappoint others.

*We will get fired or reprimanded in our jobs. Incidentally this could be a good thing for us!

*We will say the wrong thing at the wrong time.

*We will make complete fools of ourselves.

If we are LUCKY, we will do these things! Why lucky? They are learning experiences. The best learning experiences are from the mistakes we make as human beings. Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes and not make the same ones twice, but even if that happens we can learn a lesson.

I have learned SO much in my life; which means I have screwed up....a LOT! I am sure I will screw up more, but that's okay, I am human. It doesn't mean I don't try to not screw up, but I've learned to not worry so much about the mistakes. Life is too short; apologize if you can and if appropriate, learn from the mistake and move on.

I must admit, I like being an early adopter. When Facebook made their new Timeline available to coders or through setting up an application to install the Timeline a couple of months ago, I jumped on it. Now the Timeline is available for everyone and will become the only Timeline on December 22nd.

As we know, not everyone loves change, but everyone does loves to talk about change, and this is no exception. People either love the new Timeline or they hate it, but the reality is, it is here to stay. So why not make the most of it?

I love this infographic about Star Trek. Being a fan of the original Star Trek series, it has been interesting to watch the genre unfold over the years. Some of the series were good, and some not as good in my opinion; but they all stayed true to the original mission of space exploration, seeking out new life forms and mapping the future.

To me, social media is much like Star Trek; exploring brave new frontiers and mapping the future. Plus, you meet some very interesting characters :) Social media is changing and has changed the way we connect, interact and in some ways, form relationships. Think about it, a mere few years ago, none of knew what Facebook was, and we all thought tweet was something a bird did when talking to other birds! Now these tools are re-shaping how we do business, how we interact and how we spend our days. One in every nine people on Earth is on Facebook. Proof that we are boldly changing our future, one keystroke at a time!

Embrace Life, Change & Social Media

As we welcome the new month of September, ideas are running around in my head this morning that I wanted to put on paper before they were pushed out by the busyness of the day.

Friends often comment about my positive attitude and how I am always in such a good mood each morning. I appreciate their comments, but some days it's a struggle for me, just like it is for everyone. The daily challenges of life, work, friendships, relationships, getting older, etc., can make it easy to take the negative, or the "oh woe is me" route. To me, that is the worst thing a person can do, because it is counter-productive and destructive. Negative thoughts breed more negative thoughts. It is a vicious cycle. Embracing the storms and challenges of life is important, I just find it better for me to keep the focus on the positive things in life.

So, what is the magic bullet answer? There is none. But I do believe that if we work at making our mindset one of thankfulness and gratitude; a mindset of embracing life, changes in life and all that is around us, it will be far easier for us to stay in that positive frame of mind. I have no scientific evidence for this, just speaking from personal experience; for me it is far easier to daily embrace life than to pull myself out of a funk. Sandi, a friend of mine refers to me as Mr. Happy; I love that. Even on the days that I have to work at being happy, I find it helps my overall outlook on everything.

What does any of this have to do with social media? I'm glad you asked! If and when I am in a funk or frustrated about things; spending time chatting with friends; whether on the phone, face-to-face or through social media, it lifts my spirits. I log onto Twitter each day, and the positive vibes from my friends and followers literally starts my day on a positive note. There is a group of us called the #PositivePosse that provide encouragement, support and smiles to one another on a daily basis. It truly does make a difference when you surround yourself with those positive and supportive friends.

I encourage you to embrace life, embrace change, look for the good and the positive each day. Ready positive stories or posts while seeking encouraging friends to engage with via social media or face-to -face relationships. It does make a difference.

Changes

I must admit to you, my readers, that I have been remiss in putting out frequent blog posts lately. I accept full responsibility for that. Business and life has been busy, but that is no excuse!
